Chinese-American violinist and pianist Qian Yin is a versatile musician, passionate chamber performer and dedicator educator. An active soloist, Qian has appeared in such venues as the Carnegie Weill Hall in NYC, London's Royal Festival Hall and Duke's Hall. Her musicianship has been recognized in many national and international competitions. Recent competitions have included the Artist Presentation Society Competition, Alexander & Buono International Competition, Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition and American Fine Arts Festival Concerto Competition. In 2016, she was the recipient of the Atlanta Music Festival fellowship. Earlier, Qian was featured on Sky Arts Channel as a soloist at London’s Royal Festival Hall in 2010. That same year she was invited by the one of the most famous Latin American singers, Fito Paez, to perform at Fito’s recital in London.
A dedicated and prepared educator, Qian received LRAM (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music) Teaching Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music in 2009. From 2012 to 2015, Qian was awarded a Teaching Assistantship where she taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. And in 2017 and 2018, she joined the music faculty at Red Deer College and Walla Walla University. Dr.Yin’s enthusiastic priority is to guide her students to discover their unique sound and style, along with developing their technique for beautiful music making. Her students have won many competitions locally and nationally, and have been accepted to music conservatories and universities.
As a passionate chamber musician, Qian has given recitals in Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo, London, New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai and St. Louis. She has participated in many renowned music festivals, including Banff Musicians in Residence in Canada, Atlantic Music Festival in Maine, Young Euro Classic in Berlin, and Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. During the 2005 season, Qian was invited to tour with Japan's Maestro Seiji Ozawa and chamber musicians from the 'Ongaku-juku' while performing for concerts in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Hamamatsu, Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin.
Qian Yin holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Illinois, where she was awarded a Teaching Assistantship from 2012-2015. Born in China, Qian earned a Bachelor of Music at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 2009, Ms. Yin received her Master Degree and LRAM (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music) Teaching Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music in London. Among her teachers are the world-renowned educators Stefan Milenkovich and Hu Kun.
Qian Yin will be releasing her new album Violin and Piano Sonatas of Franck & Brahms in 2020. She concertizes on an Italian Violin Stefeno Scrampella from the year 1830 and a French Violin Bow by Alfred Lamy from the year 1920, courtesy of the Guadagnini Violin Shop in Chicago.
